Basque Country Food Tour

Jump aboard our VW combi from the 70's to discover the many flavors of the Basque Country.

During this tour, Clémence, your epicurean guide, will reveal the many secrets of the Basque Country, famous for its culinary traditions.

Ham, Cheese, Peppers, cakes, Liqueurs… you will discover (…and taste!) the many reasons why the Basque Country plays a strong role in the French Culinary Heritage!

During this tasty journey, you will be crossing small villages classified amongst the most beautiful of France! You will also have the opportunity to meet a Basque Shepheard and discover her job, her sheeps and of course...her cheese!

Itinerary

Pass By: Biarritz, Biarritz, Basque Country, Pyrenees-Atlantiques, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Departure from Biarritz, in front of the Cité de l'Océan. We will cross the french Basque Countryside aboard our VW Combi, to rich our first stop. During this time, your guide will introduce you to the Basque Country culture and traditions.

Stop At: Ainhoa, Ainhoa, Basque Country, Pyrenees-Atlantiques, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

We will make a first stop in the charming village of Ainhoa, located at the spanish border. You will discover our tradition of Kintoa ham and delicatessen products (chorizo, lomo, saucisson and so on…), followed by a tasting.

Stop At: Itxassou, Itxassou, Basque Country, Pyrenees-Atlantiques, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

We will then head to Itxassou, to visit the farm of Mirentxu the shepherd, to discover her work, her sheep and the famous Ossau Iraty cheese. Taste the flavors of this local cheese…with a touch of Black cherry jam! This is a way we eat it here!

Stop At: Espelette, Espelette, Basque Country, Pyrenees-Atlantiques, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

We will finish our tour by visiting the lovely village of Espelette, famous for its red peppers. This trendy condiment, very appreciated by French chefs, hangs on all the house fronts in the village! Annie, an Espelette pepper farmer, will welcome us in her shop for a tasting of local specialties made with this condiment. Enjoy the tasty atmosphere of Espelette with free time in the village, before heading back to Biarritz!
