Half Day Monsaraz Megaliths Tour from Evora by Archaeologists
On this tour you’ll delve into Portugal’s Neolithic & Chalcolithic periods (circa 5500 to 2200 BC) and explore several significant sites: the Outeiro Menir, the Xerez Cromlech, and the Dolmen of Olival da Pega.
The Alentejo is home to many megalithic structures, including cromlechs, menirs, and dolmens. It is during this period when agriculture emerged, along with many other significant cultural and social developments.

Stop At: Menir do Outeiro (Monsaraz), Norte da vila de Monsaraz, Monsaraz 7200-175 Portugal
Our meeting point for this excursion will be the Roman Temple of Évora. From there, we will embark on a 55 minute drive to reach the Outeiro Menir. This impressive solitary standing stone, over 5 meters in height, holds significance as a prehistoric ritual site.
Duration: 20 minutes
Stop At: Cromeleque do Xerez (Monsaraz), Monsaraz 7200-175 Portugal
Next, we will proceed to the nearby Xerez Cromlech, situated just 10 minutes away. This cromlech has a unique story, from prehistory to present. You will learn about the history of this spectacular site from archaeologists specializing in the prehistory of this region.
You will also have some free time to explore the site.

Stop At: Conjunto Megalitico do Olival da Pega, Monsaraz 7200 Portugal
Following some free time to explore the Cromlech, we will regroup and embark on a 10 minute drive to our next destination, the Dolmen of Olival da Pega (Anta do Olival da Pega), a prehistoric burial site. We will delve into the archaeological discoveries made here.
Our return journey to Évora will commence thereafter, with drop-offs scheduled for around 12:30pm, conveniently timed for a delightful lunch in the city.

Please note that pick-up time will vary according to how many groups are booked on a single tour. If you choose the hotel pick-up option, your pick-up time may be as much as 30 minutes prior to the tour start time. When you have made your booking, please specify the hotel you would like to be picked up from. We will let let you know what time you should be ready in your hotel lobby at least 24 hours prior to the tour. You will be greeted by your Tour Guide outside of your hotel.
Children under the age of 12 or under 1.5 meters in height are required to sit in the back seat of the vehicle in a child car seat or booster that is appropriate to their size. We do not provide car seats, so please remember to bring your own.
Please wear appropriate footwear (sneakers or hiking shoes are suggested). Please note that footpaths may be muddy after rainy weather.
