The Golden Train on Rauma Railway in Romsdalen

Experience the spectacular history of the Gold Transport, and enjoy the majestic scenery of high peaks and jagged rock faces with Trollveggen, Kylling bridge and the Verma waterfalls as some of the main attractions. Along the route you will be served with unique stories about the ones who have struggled and lived amongst sharp peaks, fed on the river, and climbed the mountains.

On The Golden Train - A Rauma Railway experience, you will witness a train journey out of the ordinary. Admire the wonderful Romsdalen valley from the train window, with the emerald green Rauma river, the world-famous Trollveggen and the engineering masterpiece Kylling Bridge as some of the highlights - not to mention the story of the dramatic rescue operation that took place on this route, when all of Norway's gold holdings were transported from Oslo to security in USA and Canada during World War II. We slow down while you find your camera and snap holiday memories for a lifetime.

The train journey starts at Åndalsnes station, where you will be welcomed on board by our friendly train hosts. The trip to Bjorli takes approx. an hour, and is packed with fantastic views and exciting stories. With your own mobile phone and headphones, you can download our audio guide in your preferred language - Norwegian, English or German. Breathe in the fresh mountain air at Bjorli station while you experience part of Rauma railway’s history up close. On the trip back down to Åndalsnes, you will listen to new and exciting stories. The whole round trip takes about 2.5-3 hours
