Nagoya Sumo Tournament and Castle Tour

Nagoya Sumo Tournament and Castle Tour

The grand sumo tournament tour in Nagoya is a small group tour with real-time commentaries by a sumo expert guide.
This is not just about watching the sumo tournament but includes:
1. Walking tour around Ryogoku, a sumo town (Optional)
Visit sumo-related historical landmarks and look at sumo stables from outside where sumo wrestlers live and train. Increase joy of watching the tournament by learning a lot about sumo from your knowledgeable guide as you visit many sumo related must-see spots before you actually view the bouts in the arena.
2. Use of an earphone guide system during the tour to hear the guide clearly even from a distance.
3. Real-time commentaries by the guide throughout the tour and tournament.
4. Dinner at a chanko-nabe restaurant (Optional) This nutrient dish is in the centerpiece of sumo wrestlers’ diet to gain weight and muscles to build their bodies.

We are going to use Chair B seats; see the seating map posted in the photo section on this page.

Stop At: Nagoya Castle, 1-1 Honmaru, Naka, Nagoya 460-0031 Aichi Prefecture

Nagoya is the fourth-most populous city in Japan. It is also known as the home of Toyota, the world's largest automotive company. While Nagoya is the third largest metropolis Japan, the city made a humble start from Nagoya Castle built by the Tokugawa clan who ruled Japan for almost three centuries. Built in early 17th century, the castle exhibits most of the traits Japanese castles offer.
Learn from your expert guide:
1) The historical backdrop when the castle was constructed.
2) How the Tokugawa clan mobilized the feudal lords who were once antagonistic toward the clan.
3) Architectural tecniques used to build it.
4) Its effectiveness as a fortress / dungeon.
Last but not least, marvel at the beauty of the Honmaru Palace featuring extensive use of valuable hinoki cypress wood, decorative metal fittings, and the fine art gracing the walls, ceilings, and sliding doors.
